Amandla.mobi Founding Executive Director, Koketso Moeti, has made the list for the third edition of “100 Most Influential Young South Africans” for 2018.

Koketso makes a return for the second time under the Leadership and Civil Society category, where she was voted 65 in 2017 – in a list topped by 33-year-old politician Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi of the Economic Freedom Fighters.

Voting for the rankings is open to the public and currently underway on the Avance Media polling page. Avance Media partners with 1000 African Voices and Avenva to rank 100 influential young people in Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and DR Congo.

Avance Managing Director Prince Akpah said a global ranking for 2019 is on the cards.

Women have made a strong showing in the Leadership and Civil Society category with only three men making the ten names.

Koketso’s activism in 2018 has earned her other prestigious accolades. The Obama Foundation announced her among its inaugural fellows for the year.

The foundation recognised her efforts of championing Amandla.mobi, an inclusive, mobile-based digital petitions platform that empowers more than 200 000 black South African women to effect social change.

These accolades honour Koketso’s immersion in the struggles of black women – rather than preaching from the top. The Obama Foundation respects her affinity with the women’s experiences saying “She is of and for that community”.

Amandla.mobi’s vision of democratizing technology to raise the voices of the silenced and ignored also earned Koketso the Waislitz Global Citizen Award Grand Prize.

What earned Koketso respect for the Global Citizen Award was her understanding of unique community challenges, based on her own experiences growing up in Rooigrond having the courage to fight off evictions by the local municipality.
