Local media has unparalleled proximity to communities and is often best-placed to report on how they are affected when developmental indicators do not tally - such as how big companies located in their communities can best support sustainable and inclusive growth.
The 2-day 2019 Storytelling for Sustainable Development Journalism Workshop, brought to you by frayintermedia in partnership with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), will take place between 25-26 Feb 2019 in Johannesburg. It will focus on strengthening community media in this crucial capacity by empowering 15 community journalists, who have at least two to three years' experience in business reporting, on using Corporate Sustainability Reports to tell compelling stories on development.
The workshop will:
Spell out what CSRs are, why they are important to community media and and which focal points are the most relevant.
Get reporters up to speed with the language common to CSRs - to help them navigate the jargon, distill the complex lexicon and interpret what matters to communities.
Guide reporters on how to use Storytelling Theory to educate, inform and creatively report on key development indicators.
Teach journalists on how best to harness the power of Narrative Journalism to engage communities and improve their participation in inclusive and sustainable development planning.
