As the future of training becomes digitised, with more and more programmes moving towards e-learning, users see two futures ahead of them: one dominated by exorbitant costs and high levels of oversight, and one where skills transfer seamlessly with with low costs.
Modern e-learning programmes, when managed and implemented correctly, offer a range of benefits over physical trainings. As internet penetration on the African continent improves, these benefits will only increase. Many of these benefits were recently outlined in an IBM White Paper titled The Value of e-Learning. Drawing on our training expertise on the African continent, we've reworked these findings to highlight how e-learning can benefit development organisation
Together these benefits mean that NGOs are now able to deliver high quality training to beneficiaries and stakeholders in support of achieving their mission cheaper and easier than ever before:
Reduced cost – including reduced instructor costs and travel expenses.
Efficient – online training eliminates the administrative burden of planning and executing offline training.
Enables co-operation – e-learning can enable co-operation between different countries and contexts to increase the impact.
Scalable – online training scales more easily than traditional classroom training.
Universal access to experts – e-learning eliminates “bad instructor” days and ensures that experts are available wherever there is internet coverage.
Convenient – e-learning allow students to learn at their convenience, unique location and/or during their time preference.
Reduces/eliminates travel – e-learning can eliminate or reduce travel and related environmental impacts.
And another benefit in terms of tracking impact – e-learning solutions provide tracking mechanisms that record attendance, completion and time spent on specific modules or content so you can account for expenditure, prove impact and improve course offerings.
