Knowledge of the Press Code and media law is fundamental for modern journalism. For media owners, proof that reporters know the press code of ethics is an additional insurance policy against possible legal action. With this in mind, frayintermedia has partnered with the MDDA to deliver an eLearning course based on the Press Code of ethics to 100 independent and community online and print media reporters. This project provides an opportunity for journalists to acquire relevant knowledge to improve the quality of reporting in terms of ethical compliance and accuracy thereby reinforcing South Africa’s press code.

The programme has been endorsed by the Press Council and SANEF.

  • The Press Code eLearning Course is made up of ten modules

  • It takes 8 weeks to complete (Subject to learner’s pace)

  • It is accessed through mobile phone, tablet or PC/desktop

  • Course fees are sponsored by the MDDA

  • Certificates of competence will be issued upon completion

The aim of this programme is to:

  • Promote and entrench media freedom through community newspapers learning about the Press Code;

  • Ensure that the community media is more credible and accountable to its readers as a result of better quality and more accurate reporting.

frayintermedia intends to register 100 interested community and small commercial print and online media journalists to participate on this programme.
